USWeb/CKS Honored by CIO Magazine as Top 50 Intranet Site

Company's corporate intranet recognized for delivering outstanding business value

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - July 1, 1999 - USWeb/CKS (Nasdaq: USWB), the leading Internet and marketing communications firm, today announced that it has received the CIO Web Business 50/50 award in recognition of the business excellence of its corporate intranet.

The award is given each year by CIO magazine to 50 Internet and 50 intranet/extranet sites that deliver outstanding business value. USWeb/CKS Central, the intranet that serves as the primary communications platform for USWeb/CKS, ties together 2,800 employees in 40 offices worldwide and has been a key success factor in the company's growth from start-up to industry leader.

Winners in the third annual CIO award program were selected by a panel of CIO magazine editors, writers, art designers and Web development experts. The panel of judges evaluated hundreds of nominated sites for their ability to use innovative Web techniques to deliver greater business value. In particular, the panel focused on finding sites that successfully integrate creative design and high-quality technical attributes.

"We are honored that CIO magazine has recognized the business excellence of our corporate intranet," said Robert Shaw, CEO, USWeb/CKS. "We fundamentally believe that Internet technologies are transforming business, and USWeb/CKS Central is a real-world example of that belief in action. It's been instrumental in our ability to operate efficiently and leverage the collective expertise of our professionals two of our most important competitive advantages."

The key business purposes behind USWeb/CKS Central are to streamline business processes and to help the company leverage its most important asset: its human capital. The majority of the company's internal business is done over the intranet, including all Human Resources functions, which has enabled the company to maintain lean and efficient corporate operations. At the heart of USWeb/CKS is an extensive knowledge management system, called the KnowledgeBase. The KnowledgeBase captures the knowledge of Internet technology and marketing consultants throughout the company and creates a pool of expertise that can be drawn on and leveraged by any employee, enabling the company to more easily leverage its collective strength and apply particular expertise where it's most needed. It includes features such as a project registry, a technology and methodology library, employee profiles and online discussion groups.
