Macromedia and USWeb/CKS Announce Strategic Alliance

USWeb/CKS Supports Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO - October 7, 1999 - Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR), who today unveiled its new eBusiness Infrastructure strategy, and USWeb/CKS (Nasdaq: USWB), a leader in Internet professional services, today jointly announced a strategic alliance intended to help simplify the management and production of dynamic content on the Web. Under the alliance, USWeb/CKS will use Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure to enhance the effectiveness of integrated content creation, content management, personalization, and analysis in the Internet-based solutions USWeb/CKS develops for clients.

Building on its market leadership in Web authoring software, Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure is the first comprehensive, integrated solution for creating, managing, measuring, and delivering corporate Internet, intranet, and extranet sites. Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure solutions will allow enterprises to collaborate more efficiently, reduce time and resources to site deployment, lower costs, and measure the return on investment of mission-critical Web sites. By integrating content creation, content management, personalization and analysis, Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure establishes a unique closed-loop eMarketing capability.

"By extending its mission to facilitate the effective design and delivery of content for the Internet, Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure strategy is addressing the most challenging issues facing our clients today," said Robert Shaw, CEO, USWeb/CKS. "Building this into our Internet-based solutions helps us deliver Time-to-Value to our clients."

"USWeb/CKS is clearly a leader in creating the most effective sites on the Internet today," said Rob Burgess, chairman and CEO of Macromedia, Inc. "Our content management, personalization, and measurement solutions will allow USWeb/CKS to further enhance the value of these sites, while reducing the initial and ongoing investment required to build and maintain advanced Internet applications."

As part of the alliance, the companies are jointly developing a program to facilitate the application of Macromedia's eBusiness Infrastructure as part of USWeb/CKS' Internet-based solutions. Macromedia and USWeb/CKS will also collaborate on the development of future eBusiness Infrastructure solutions with the goal of taking the complexity out of dynamic content management and production. Macromedia will provide sales, marketing and training support to the USWeb/CKS team.

In related announcements, Macromedia today announced its new eBusiness Infrastructure strategy, the signing of a definitive merger agreement with Andromedia, and the undertaking of Project Whirlwind, a complete standards-based site production platform for content contribution, production management, content management, verification and deployment for advanced Web sites.
