USWeb/CKS Extends IBM Expertise to Customers

Fieldcrest Cannon and Fluor Daniel benefit from USWeb/CKS and IBM Expertise

San Francisco - December 9, 1999 - USWeb/CKS (Nasdaq: USWB), the leader in Internet professional services, today announced two client milestones that demonstrate the companys agreement to support IBM technology on behalf of its clients. USWeb/CKS has leveraged its strategic relationship with IBM to help major customers accelerate Time-to-Value breakthrough results that quickly provide value to a business.

For Fieldcrest Cannon, a leading linen maker, USWeb/CKS combined its e-commerce insight with its knowledge of IBM Net.Commerce, WebSphere and Java server technology, to deliver a new e-business model from concept to full-implementation in less than 100 days. As a result, Fieldcrest Cannon is ready for the online holiday shopping season. For Fluor Daniel, a global engineering, construction and procurement firm, USWeb/CKS applied its internal communication and technology expertise, along with its knowledge of IBM solutions, to create a robust Intranet. As a result, Flour Daniel employees now have a single source for sharing and communicating important company information.

As the leader in helping clients leverage the Internet to quickly create value for their business, we are excited about applying our IBM expertise to our client engagements, said Bob Monio, Director, IBM Strategic Relations, USWeb/CKS. Our work with Fieldcrest Cannon and Fluor Daniel serves as proof of our professional and business development success with IBM on a worldwide basis. With over 60 percent of the worlds business data being transacted on IBM equipment, these successes position USWeb/CKS as the premier IBM solutions provider for businesses in the digital economy.

Our relationship with USWeb/CKS gives customers a powerful combination IBMs scaleable and reliable e-business software with in-depth strategy, marketing and technology expertise from USWeb/CKS, said Wally Casey, vice president, Worldwide Channel Sales, IBM Software Group. In a very short period of time, the USWeb/CKS team has built extensive IBM technology expertise. Together, we are helping companies unleash the power of the Internet to increase brand equity and enhance employee communications.

Fieldcrest Cannon

USWeb/CKS created an e-commerce Internet site for Fieldcrest Cannon, www.royalvelvet.com, enabling the company to enhance its one-to-one relationship with its customers. Featuring Fieldcrest Cannons Royal Velvet brand, the site is based on a reusable architecture USWeb/CKS created by combining IBM Net.Commerce, WebSphere and Java server technology. The solution takes advantage of IBMs powerful DB2 Universal Database technology, and uses Java to enable such features as shopping baskets and virtual bathrooms, which allow the online shopper to see how a room will look furnished with bed linens or bathtowels.

The technical expertise that USWeb/CKS brought to the project and their knowledge of IBMs solutions greatly enhanced our consumers online shopping experience, said Bob Hetu, Division VP, Replenishment at Pillowtex, a Division of Fieldcrest Cannon. By using IBMs WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Studio, USWeb/CKS built us a site that will scale to our needs and allow us to further extend our brands on the Internet this is key for our future Internet growth.

Fluor Daniel

Fluor Daniel had vast quantities of information available on a variety of Web servers and Intranet sites. The company sought to centralize the information to improve communication among employees while reducing the number of Intranet sites they had to access.

USWeb/CKS designed a new centralized Intranet resource for Flour Daniel and provided employees with the ability to update and maintain the site directly without the help of a Web master. USWeb/CKS used Domino with content management and approval workflow to allow simple ongoing management of the site. Designated employees can now easily update content on the site by simply editing items in a Lotus Notes database.

Navigation of the new Intranet also was important. USWeb/CKS used Java to create a menu on the companys Intranet home page that allows employees to easily navigate to all other parts of the site. As one centralized resource, the Intranet now includes: corporate news, featured sites of the week, Fluor Corporation stock price updates and Q & As with executives.
