Ian Small
Chief Strategist and Knowledge Officer

As chief strategist and knowledge officer, Ian Small is one of the primary architects of the company's integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to Internet professional services. He directs USWeb/CKS' corporate Knowledge Management Group, which serves to promote information sharing and best practices across the company, leveraging the Internet and other technologies.

USWeb/CKS clients benefit from Small's vast experience. Steeped in engineering management, human interface research, interdisciplinary product development and management consulting, he specializes in marrying technical implementations with marketing and business strategies. Small has completed successful projects for such high-profile companies as Visa International, General Motors, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft.

Prior to joining CKS in 1995, Small worked at Apple Computer for six years. In this capacity, he served as engineering manager for QuickTime VR, Apple's award-winning cross-platform virtual reality software. Small also has experience working as a member of a Fortune 500 IS group, managing a heterogeneous Unix and PC environment and working for a management consulting firm.

Small earned a master's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in applied science from the University of Toronto. He holds nine U.S. patents in the areas of user interface, computer graphics, mobile computing and immersive sound technology. Small is also a member of Microsoft's Internet Advisory Board.
