Mark Kvamme Chairman of the Board Mark Kvamme has always been involved in rapidly changing industries, but nothing as rapid as the changes being driven by the Internet. As Kvamme sees it, the Internet is fundamentally impacting how we communicate and conduct commerce. "It's basically a whole new deck of cards," says Kvamme. "Every time you have significant changes in how people communicate, you have rapid innovation. Look at infrastructure shifts like the intercontinental railroad to the telegraph to radio and then to television. Every time we've connected and communicated better as a society, the pace of innovation, or change, significantly ratchets up. The Internet is the fastest communication medium yet-and change will be the only constant in this rapidly moving world." As Chairman of the Board for USWeb/CKS, Kvamme is a driving force behind helping clients fundamentally change the way they do business. In addition to contributing to the strategic direction of USWeb/CKS, Kvamme devotes most of his time to advising clients on how to survive and thrive in the digital economy. Kvamme joined CKS Group in 1989 and served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer from 1991 until the merger with USWeb in December 1998. At CKS, Kvamme directed the growth and expansion of the company, which became one of the largest and best-recognized marketing communications and Internet professional services companies. Before joining CKS, Kvamme was Director of International Marketing for Wyse Technology, a terminal and PC clone manufacturer, from 1986 to 1989. Before joining Wyse, Kvamme founded and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of International Solutions, a global distributor of hardware and software products, from 1984 to 1986. While at Apple Computer between 1980 and 1984, Kvamme held various management positions in international sales and marketing and in product development, and was a founding member of Apple France. Kvamme holds a B.A. in French Economics and Literature from the University of California at Berkeley. Kvamme serves on the boards of USWeb/CKS (USWB) and Macromedia (MACR), as well as on those of several private companies. Additionally, he is a partner in Sequoia Capital, a leading Silicon Valley venture capital firm.
